Warriston, the wooded ground around the old Warriston Cemetery in north Edinburgh, has been known as an outdoor gay cruising spot for decades. After Calton Hill it is the city's best-known cruising area, and it is quiet, green and screened by trees.
It is busiest in the warmer months and after dark. It is a cemetery and a public path network used by walkers and dog-owners, so be discreet. Go aware of your surroundings at night and keep valuables to a minimum.

One of Edinburghs nicest alleyways/steps. Many people having photos taken on them. There’s 120 steps so good shoes needed.

If you're walking down Edinburgh Royal Mile you'll pass many alleyways, they are called closes in Edinburgh, one of the most dramatic is Warriston's Close. Connecting High Street ( Edinburgh Royal Mile ) with Cockburn Street, there's approximately 120 plus steps ,its steep ,it better walking down than up but it well worth checking out, architecture is superb, its named in honour of Sir Archibald Johnston ( Lord Warriston ) who lived here in the 17th century.
