What a fun and unique landmark! The Headington Shark is brilliant and instantly puts a smile on your face. We only spent a few minutes here but it was totally worth the stop.
Took a ten minute bus ride from Oxford city centre to New High Street to see the humorous attraction that is the Headington shark! Found this online, and had to go and see it in person. It is a huge 25 foot shark, embedded in the roof of a terraced house, on just a normal residential street, but it's amusing, as it's just not something you see every day! Kids who love sharks and are over the age of about 5 would love this! 🦈
Very easy and quick to pop by and see this.... not likely to see a shark attacking a house anytime again!!
we managed to get a parking spot near and quickly nipped out to take photos this is so funny and great to see it is a small road so you need to be quick or park near
The Headington shark lights up my day every time I see it. If the kids are a bit down, take them to see it - it always raises a smile.
The Shark is a charming double cottage with the added attraction of having a shark diving into its roof :) The house is very comfortable with plenty bathrooms, spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds and a well fitted and laid out kitchen. It is so handy for restaurants, shopping and public transport. An ideal place for a fun stop over in the Oxford area.
If you want to see something quirky and unusual then go have a look at the Headington Shark. A seven metre shark that has apparently nosed dived into No 2 New High Street a little terraced type house. New High Street is a one way street with parking restrictions along its length so its really a question of having your phone or camera at the ready. A quick stop, shoot and off. That said it is still worth a look.
Installed in 1986. Perhaps not what I would have sticking out of my roof but definitely makes you smile as you turn a corner into this residential street!
We drove past the Headington Shark on Sunday. I remember seeing it on the news years ago so it was great to have a drive past as we were in the area.
Amazingly silly, absurd, obscure, eccentric - however you choose to describe it, it’s well worth a detour. Worth reading up on the history behind it.
