Athens has a functioning gay sauna scene with a handful of established venues operating in and around the city centre. The options are not as numerous as in Berlin or Amsterdam, but what exists is solid, affordable, and busy on both weekday afternoons and weekend evenings.

What to expect

Athenian saunas run to the standard format: entry with a locker or private room option, steam room, dry sauna, showers, and shared areas. Facilities at the established venues are maintained to a reasonable standard. Staff are used to international visitors and deal with language barriers without fuss.

Pricing is cheap. Entry for a locker session typically runs 10-15 euros. Private room upgrades are available at most venues for a moderate additional cost. Towels are usually included. Compared to London, Berlin, or Paris, the Athens sauna scene is genuinely affordable.

Timing and crowd

Weekday afternoons attract the most consistent local crowd. Early evenings are quieter. Later on weekend nights, after the bars have been open for a few hours, venues see more visitors. Athens runs on a late schedule and the saunas fit into that rhythm — some are open 24 hours or very late.

Practical notes

Phones are not permitted inside, as is standard. Lockers handle valuables. Bring your own toiletries if you have preferences — basic soap is usually provided but not much more. Condoms are available at reception at any serious venue.
