Nanaimo Pride Society

The Nanaimo Pride Society is the volunteer-run 2SLGBTQ+ non-profit at the centre of queer community life on central Vancouver Island. It organises Nanaimo Pride — the city's annual Pride Week and festival — alongside social gatherings, fundraisers and advocacy work throughout the year. Nanaimo's first Pride march was held in 1997 as a small protest, and the Society has since grown the celebration into a downtown parade and festival at Maffeo Sutton Park. The organisation partners with local businesses, health services and other Island groups to run events and connect residents and visitors with LGBTQ+ resources.
