The Charles Street Meeting House at 70 Charles Street is a Federal-style building from 1807, attributed to Asher Benjamin. In the 19th century it was a Baptist church with an abolitionist platform, and later it served other congregations. In the 20th century it opened its doors to civil rights groups and, later, LGBTQ+ ones. Its place in gay history is as a meeting point for the Homophile Union of Boston, founded in 1969, and for organisers of Boston's first Pride march in June 1971. The building now houses private offices and shops, so you can only see it from the street. Charles Street itself is worth a walk.
