Health Development Initiative (HDI Rwanda)

Health Development Initiative (HDI Rwanda) is a Kigali-based non-governmental organisation founded in 2005 and registered in Rwanda, working to improve health and human rights for underserved communities. Alongside its broader public-health mandate, HDI runs dedicated programmes for LGBTQ+ Rwandans, including HIV prevention and testing, peer education, mental-health and psychosocial counselling, and legal aid for people who face discrimination or violence based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Because it operates as a mainstream health organisation, HDI offers a relatively discreet and safe entry point for LGBTQ+ visitors and locals who need services, information or referrals. Its offices are in Kigali and its staff are experienced in working confidentially with the queer community.
