Fukuoka UBL Hotel

115. We went to see the cherry blossoms at the end of April. We booked two rooms for 3 adults and 2 children. The rooms were standard Japanese business room size, suitable for couples or two people. A plus was the large public bath on the first floor, which is rare in Fukuoka. It's far from the subway station, but there's a trendy street nearby (7-minute walk). Famous home decor stores are also nearby (Yakuen). When taking a taxi, I suggest not using the Google Maps address; please show the driver the hotel address on the hotel's website.
We stayed for 3 nights in a 2-bed room for two people. We had a comfortable stay without any inconvenience. The staff are friendly, and it is a decent hotel. If you stay for consecutive nights, they hang fresh towels on the door every day. There is also a free public bath. For parking, you can use the paid parking lot at the back, which usually costs between 600 and 800 yen.
1. The room was small, but the toilet smelled terrible. The moment I opened the door, I thought someone was sweating inside. Even with the exhaust fan running all day, the stench wouldn't dissipate. It was awful. 2. The website advertised parking, but upon arrival, I found only three spaces available, with no discounts offered by partner parking lots. This is very inconvenient for drivers; I wouldn't recommend it. 3. The front desk staff lacked professional language skills. 4. There was a public hot spring bath on the first floor, but it was filled with a lot of bleach, giving it a strong chlorine smell, like a swimming pool in hot water. The smell hit me as soon as I took the elevator down in the morning, making me nauseous. 5. The room curtains let in light, offering absolutely no privacy. 6. The only advantage was its proximity to a pharmacy, but for the same price, there are better options available.
It's a relatively new hotel, so it was clean. The small size of the toilet was a bit of a drawback, but there's a convenience store nearby, and plenty of restaurants, so you won't have any problems finding a place to stay. The subway stations of Akasaka and Yakuin-odori are both within walking distance, which is very convenient.
I just put the hotel room card in my pocket and walked around, but the top of the card broke. This is the first time this has happened in my 30 trips to Japan. I was charged 2,200 yen for a card replacement. It's a bit hard to accept that a normally used card was damaged when it wasn't even brand new, and charging a fee for something that wasn't lost is also a bit odd. Other than that, OTT works, and the room is clean.
The bathroom and room are on the smaller side, but it is pleasant and clean. The staff are friendly. It is great that the hotel has a large public bath! You can also help yourself to amenities if needed, and luggage storage is available upon checkout. I plan to book here again next time!
