akta is a community centre in Shinjuku Ni-chome, on the third floor of a building on Shinjuku 2-chome, run as a hub for HIV prevention and sexual health in Tokyo's gay district. It provides free condoms and lube, information on testing and clinics, and printed guides, and its staff and volunteers distribute prevention packs to bars across the neighbourhood. Visitors can drop in to pick up materials or ask where to get tested. It is a resource centre, not a bar or social club, and most information is in Japanese, though staff are used to foreign visitors. Check opening times before you go, as it opens mainly in the evening.
