A Rainbow in the Village is Paekakariki's annual LGBTQ+ community celebration — one of New Zealand's smallest and most charming pride events, held in this tiny seaside village north of Wellington. The event has become a beloved fixture in the Wellington region's queer calendar: a village fete meets pride march, with rainbow flags on every fence, community stalls, live music, and the extraordinary backdrop of the Kāpiti Coast beach and the Tasman Sea.
