Parque da Cidade (Cruising)

Parque da Cidade is Porto's largest green space, a sprawling park that runs from the western edge of the city down to the Atlantic at Matosinhos. By day it is a family and jogging park; after dark, its wooded paths have long been one of the city's best-known outdoor gay cruising spots -- 'pegacao', in Portuguese slang -- a reputation noted across local guides for years. There is nothing commercial or organised about it: it is discreet, seasonal and busiest on warm nights. Portugal is very LGBTQ-friendly, but public sexual activity is illegal and the park is open and unlit in places, so discretion and ordinary personal-safety caution both apply.
