The honest summary: Tulum has one gay bar, Red Room, and it closes for part of the year. The rest of a gay night out happens in mixed bars in town and at the beach road's jungle restaurants. There is no gay club, no gay sauna and no gay street. Last verified: November 2026.

Red Room: the only gay bar

Red Room is a small, red-lit club in Tulum Centro. Travel Gay, misterb&b and The Gay Passport all list it, on Calle Sol Poniente at Calle Júpiter Sur, near where Avenida Tulum meets Avenida Cobá. Guides list drag on Thursday, Friday and Sunday and male strippers on Saturday, with doors from about 8pm Wednesday to Sunday and the dance floor filling after midnight.

It closes for the low season (misterb&b says July to November), and Google showed it as temporarily closed in early November 2026. Check @redroomtulum on Instagram for the reopening date and that week's shows before you go.

Fruity Tulum: the pop-up

Fruity Tulum is a queer party that moves between venues in town every few weeks, often on a Friday, with extra editions around Pride. There is no fixed venue or calendar, so follow @fruitytulum. The old Fruity cocktail bar is closed.

Mixed bars gay travellers use

    • Batey (Calle Centauro Sur) is a mojito and sugarcane bar with live Cuban and Latin music, listed as LGBTQ-friendly by Travel Gay. It is a short walk from Red Room.
    • La Guarida (Calle Orión Sur at Andrómeda Oriente) is a garden café-bar and cultural space with live music, which misterb&b says is well loved by the LGBTQ+ community.
    • Gitano Jungle (Km 7, beach road) is a mezcal bar and restaurant with a DJ that goes late on Fridays. GayCities says it is as close to a queer club as Tulum gets, and Gitano ran a Pride Weekend with a drag party in June 2025.

Casa Jaguar and Papaya Playa Project turn up on gay travellers' lists as party venues with a mixed crowd. They aren't gay venues, and Casa Jaguar was the scene of a shooting in March 2024, so we don't list them.

    Practical tips

    • Town and the beach road are 3–4 km apart. Taxis have no meters and there is no Uber, so agree the fare in pesos first.
    • Avenida Tulum is fine on foot until about 1am; after that stick to the main road or take a taxi.
    • Beach-club parties in Tulum have seen drug-linked shootings (2024 and January 2026). Don't buy drugs.
    • For a bigger gay night out, Playa del Carmen is about an hour north and Cancún about two hours.

    Closed or changed

    • Fruity cocktail bar: closed; the party continues as pop-ups.
    • "Tulum Pride Sauna": listed online, but no gay guide lists it and Google marks it permanently closed. Tulum has no gay sauna.

Pride: Tulum Pride is a small town-hall programme in June; the 2026 march was on 20 June, and 2027 dates were not announced at the time of writing.
