Parque Municipal (Cruising Area)

The Parque Municipal Américo Renné Giannetti, the large public park in downtown Belo Horizonte, is the city's best-documented gay cruising ground, with activity historically centred on its public restrooms and wooded paths. It is well enough known to have inspired academic writing and a 2025 feature film about the park's cruising history. By day it is an ordinary, busy family park, so discretion is essential. Note that under Article 233 of the Brazilian Penal Code overt sexual acts in public places are an offence (ato obsceno); cruising itself is not illegal, but public sex is prosecutable. Keep to park hours, stay aware of your surroundings and respect other visitors.
