Excellent hotel amenities

A hotel that has declined significantly over time — no longer worth the price I have stayed at this hotel many times over more than a decade, and unfortunately, the overall experience has steadily declined. This used to feel like a reliable, higher-end hotel in Montreal. Based on my most recent stay, it now feels tired, poorly maintained, and significantly overpriced for what it offers. The room was disappointing and not reflective of a supposed 4-star hotel. The wallpaper was peeling at the seams, the carpet was old, worn, and stained, and the bathroom tiles were stained, especially around the toilet area, which looked more like something you would expect in a public men’s urinal than in a premium hotel bathroom. The bathtub also did not drain properly. Despite being on a higher floor, there was still noticeable street noise. The bed was not particularly comfortable, and the pillows were terrible. The toiletries were sparse, and face cloths were only provided once during a four-night stay, which felt unnecessarily cheap for a hotel charging premium rates. The restaurant was also disappointing. The food was extremely bland and did not come close to matching the standard expected from a hotel in this category. On top of that, there was a surprise “resort fee,” which felt inappropriate and frustrating, especially since the Omni Montreal is not a resort hotel. Another disappointment is that membership perks are not honoured if the reservation is made through a third-party site. While I understand hotels may have policies around third-party bookings, it still feels like poor customer service, especially for repeat guests who have stayed at the property many times over the years. The staff were pleasant enough, but not particularly warm, attentive, or proactive. That has also been part of the decline — the service used to feel more polished and welcoming. Overall, this hotel seems to be relying on its former reputation rather than delivering the quality, comfort, and service expected at this price point. After many stays over many years, it is disappointing to see how far the experience has declined. I would not recommend it unless significant renovations and service improvements are made.

Quiet far from old town and touristy things to do (40min walk) Close to park to walk up and see great views of city. Near shopping areas and cinema and resteraunts.

Let me start by saying the Omni name carries weight, and the location on Sherbrooke Street is genuinely excellent — walkable, central, and beautiful. Unfortunately, that's where the four-star experience ends. We booked specifically because every major booking platform — Google, the Delta app, and Omni's own listings — prominently advertises an outdoor pool. What greeted us instead was a drained, algae-stained concrete shell that looked like it had been used as a film set for a post-apocalyptic drama. When we inquired at the front desk, we were calmly informed the pool has been "under repair" for approximately three years. Three years. At what point does a hotel quietly remove an amenity from its listings rather than continue collecting bookings from guests expecting to use it? Other guests have noted the same thing: finding out the pool was closed was "very disappointing" — and had they known in advance, they would not have stayed, especially at these prices. That sentiment deserves to be amplified, not buried in the fine print. The rooms themselves are a study in managed decline. The bathrooms appear to have been installed during the Carter administration and maintained with the bare minimum effort required to avoid regulatory intervention. The bathtubs are deep, slick, and lack any meaningful grip surface — a charming design choice if you haven't just spent a day walking and cycling through one of the most active cities in Canada. After a full day on your feet in the Montreal heat, a shower that requires the balance of a gymnast and the luck of a lottery winner is not a premium amenity. It is a liability. But the real insult is in the details. We were charged a $50 early check-in fee — a premium surcharge for the privilege of arriving to a room stocked with exactly two towels for two guests, empty soap dispensers, and no glasses in the bathroom. Not misplaced. Not forgotten. Simply absent. This is not an oversight at a budget motel off the highway. This is a property charging four-star rates and early check-in premiums while failing to stock the room with the basics found at a Holiday Inn Express. The room itself carried an odor I'll describe as "vintage" — the kind of smell that suggests the walls have absorbed decades of history that no amount of housekeeping product fully resolves. This is not a four-star hotel. It is a two-star property wearing a four-star logo like a costume. The logo is polished. The building is not. Until the pool is restored, the bathrooms are updated for basic safety, and the rooms are stocked with the bare fundamentals of hospitality, the Omni Mont-Royal is trading on a reputation it has stopped earning. Adjust your expectations — and your booking — accordingly.

There is no water or bathroom slippers in the rooms. You have to ask for them at reception. Breakfast service is extremely slow.
