Saintlo Ottawa Jail Hostel

It's suitable for what's needed, it's clean and the bedrooms are a good size, the bad thing is that people don't respect the established noise hours.

always a great place to stay if you’re looking for a cheaper accommodation in the heart of ottawa!! the free breakfast is excellent (i would recommend getting to it earlier as the potatoes and eggs run out quickly) and all the common areas are kept nice and clean! as this used to be an actual jail, the rooms may be a bit claustrophobic, but cozy! you do get what you pay for, so don’t come in with high expectations - it is a hostel in an old jail after all. the parking on the property is $20 and is first come first serve when you arrive!

Cute, cosy and very affordable hostel. The blinds surrounding each beds offer visitors complete privacy. The fan and lamp add a nice touch too. Great place for an unbeatable price. Staff were kind and friendly too. Can’t wait to visit their Montreal hostel too 🧡

The place was okay. Biggest thing to beware of is that dorm beds are mostly head in (head/foot against the wall instead of side), and boxed in on 5 side by solid wood panels; it's both awkward to in and out of, and gets very stuffy (the tiny fan at the head doesn't help much). The ladders are also a bit hard to use. But otherwise the facility isn't bad at all. The location is reasonably close to the attractions in the city; but beware the road in front leads to a major junction and taxis can take a long time to get here during peak hours; and the bit of rideau st that you are bound to walk pass almost daily has a lot of homeless people and isn't the cleanest; though it's probably safe.

Book it! Hopefully your one and only prison stay ;) Hidden gem! Sleep in a refurbished cell, do the tour, have the full experience! Well run historical building and hostel. Close to all the good stuff in Ottawa. Guided tour was punny and eccentric! Best part is informative signs throughout. Great breakfast spread, well equipped kitchen, free laundry machines. Beds were comfy, bathrooms very clean, and they try with little amenities like fans, bed side lights, sun blocking on doors, free ear plugs, and sssh signs everywhere (sound travels in this building!). Our cell was uncomfortably warm however, as it was April and they had the heat on - we must’ve done something to deserve a wee bit of punishment? ;)

Great location, close to a very happening neighborhood and close to metro station. Safe and comfortable dorm rooms, beds and toilets. Breakfast was great. Did the jail tour and was amazed by the history associated with the place. Happy that the jail was converted to a hostel and I got the opportunity to spend a few nights.

My friend and I had a lovely stay at this hostel. We were booked into the 10 bed female only dorm and we ended up pretty much with our own private room! 5 different cells each with a bunk bed. Super interesting building, we were disappointed we didn’t have time to do the free tour of the jail. The breakfast was basic but nice, suited us just fine and we were glad to be able to remove the stress of finding breakfast everyday. Great location and super friendly staff! Just a couple of notes that dropped it from a 5 to a 4 star… firstly, the ten bed female dorm only had one designated shower and one designated bathroom (there was a second toilet just up the hall, but that was more communal for the dining/common area). And secondly, the cell itself would have benefited from a more thorough cleaning; dead skin and hair on the floors. However, this would not put us off staying again!

What a pleasant surprise! It has all the perks of a hostel, plus more. The building is unique, staf is very kind, bathrooms and kitchen are very clean and my 1-person cell had the best bed I’ve ever had, even in a multi-starred hotel. Young and older (60+) people, families, schoolgehouden:all mixed very well. Location is very central, however at night it might feel a bit sketchy. When you know how to go, it is not a problem at all. I suggest when arrive at night as a young solo woman traveller, to take an Uber. But otherwise you can easy walk or take the bus/metro. When I’ll come to Ottowa again, I’ll stay here for sure.
