Capital Pride ist Ottawas jährliche LGBTQ+-Pride-Feier und eines der bedeutendsten Pride-Events Kanadas — vor allem durch die Kulisse: Der Parliament Hill als Hintergrund ist eine Besonderheit, die kein anderer Pride der Welt vorweisen kann. Jeden August bringt Capital Pride rund 100.000 Teilnehmer und Zuschauer ins Stadtzentrum von Ottawa für eine Woche voller Events, gekrönt von der Pride Parade durch die Straßen der Hauptstadt — mit Centre Block und Peace Tower in der Skyline. Der Augusttermin hebt Capital Pride vom Juni-Cluster der großen kanadischen Prides ab — bewusst gewählt, um den wärmsten und sonnigsten Monat Ottawas zu nutzen und nicht mit Toronto, Montreal oder Vancouver zu konkurrieren. Die Programmwoche umfasst die Parade, Community-Events, Auftritte an Spielstätten entlang der Bank Street und in der ganzen Stadt, Menschenrechtsprogramme und zweisprachige Veranstaltungen, die Ottawas Charakter als offiziell zweisprachige Hauptstadt widerspiegeln. Die Anwesenheit des Parlaments als Kulisse verleiht der Feier eine ausdrücklich politische Dimension, einzigartig unter den kanadischen Prides: die LGBTQ+-Community versammelt sich am Sitz der Bundesregierung, in einem Land, das die Ehe für alle eingeführt, Homosexualität entkriminalisiert und über das letzte halbe Jahrhundert hinweg Rechte schrittweise ausgeweitet hat. 100.000 Teilnehmer in einem Ballungsraum von einer Million bedeuten eine außergewöhnliche Mobilisierung der Community.
