The Ramble (Central Park Cruising Area)

The Ramble is a 36-acre wooded landscape in the middle of Central Park, laced with winding paths between roughly West 73rd and 79th Streets on the west side of the Lake. Since at least the 1920s it has been one of New York's most storied outdoor gay meeting places, and it appears throughout LGBTQ+ history and literature; the NYC LGBTQ Historic Sites Project documents its long reputation, and it remains quietly known for cruising after dark in the warmer months. By day it is a beloved birdwatching spot and an ordinary, busy public park, so use discretion in the evenings. Cruising itself is not illegal in New York, but public-sex and park-curfew rules do apply and the paths are unlit at night, so keep the usual awareness of your surroundings, stay on ground you can navigate, and respect other park users.
