Über diesen Ort Christopher Park & Stonewall National Monument

Christopher Park is a small triangular green — 0.12 acres, three benches, a wrought-iron fence — directly across Christopher Street from the Stonewall Inn. In 2016, President Obama used the Antiquities Act to designate the Stonewall Inn, Christopher Park, and the surrounding streets as **Stonewall National Monument**, the first unit of the National Park System dedicated to LGBTQ+ history. Inside the park stands *Gay Liberation*, a 1980 sculpture by George Segal: four life-sized figures cast in white bronze, two standing men and two seated women. Commissioned by the Mildred Andrews Fund, it was refused by several sites before landing here in 1992. It's the only permanently sited public sculpture in the world commemorating the queer community, and both a photograph subject and a small piece of public art most visitors don't know is here until they see it. The park is open 24 hours as public space; the small NPS ranger station on the Christopher Street side, opened in 2024, has restrooms, plaques, and a short film. Rangers offer walking tours on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (check nps.gov/ston for the current schedule). Admission is free. The park is also actively used — it holds the annual moment of silence before the NYC Pride March, and functions as a working neighbourhood green in a very dense corner of the Village. Come during golden hour if you want the sculpture in the best light.

Stone wall has a beautiful outdoors monument, and it's new visitor center is awesome. The close at different times though, so check before going. The bar may also have the stamp, and is a great place to have a drink if that's something you enjoy
