Christopher Park & Stonewall National Monument

Christopher Park is a small triangular park across Christopher Street from the Stonewall Inn, in the West Village. In 2016 it became the core of Stonewall National Monument, the first US national monument dedicated to LGBTQ+ history, marking the 1969 uprising that started outside the bar. Inside the fence stands George Segal's Gay Liberation, white-painted bronze figures of two standing men and two seated women, installed here in 1992. The park is tiny, with a few benches, and works best as a ten-minute stop combined with a drink at the Stonewall Inn. The National Park Service runs a visitor centre nearby, and the park fills up during Pride in late June.
