✓ Relations entre personnes de même sexe légales ✓ Mariage entre personnes de même sexe ✓ Événements Pride ⚖️ The Netherlands was the first country in the world to open marriage to same-sex couples, on 1 April 2001, with joint adoption from the same day; same-sex relations have been legal since 1811 and registered partnerships since 1998. The 1994 Equal Treatment Act bans discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation, extended to gender identity, expression and sex characteristics in 2019, and in February 2023 sexual orientation was written into Article 1 of the constitution. Legal gender change has not required surgery or sterilisation since 2014, though it still involves an expert statement. A conversion therapy ban passed the Senate in June 2026 after years of delay. Both mothers in a lesbian couple have been automatic parents since 2014. In February 2026 Rob Jetten became the country's first openly gay prime minister. Support for same-sex marriage is above 90 percent, but community groups count several hundred anti-LGBTQ assaults a year and acceptance among teenagers has fallen since 2021. Amsterdam's Reguliersdwarsstraat and Zeedijk, Canal Pride in August, and lively scenes in Rotterdam and Utrecht make it one of the easiest countries in the world for LGBTQ visitors.
