✓ Relations entre personnes de même sexe légales ✗ Mariage entre personnes de même sexe ✓ Événements Pride ⚖️ Israel decriminalised same-sex relations in 1988 after decades of non-enforcement, banned employment discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation in 1992 and discrimination in services in 2000. There is no civil marriage for anyone in Israel, only religious marriage, so same-sex couples marry abroad and have had those marriages registered since 2006, with common-law rights, spousal benefits and immigration rights for foreign partners recognised through the courts. Same-sex couples have adopted since 2008, both parents have appeared on birth certificates since 2018, and surrogacy was opened to gay couples and single men in January 2022 by Supreme Court order. Legal gender change has not required surgery since 2015. Conversion therapy is condemned by the medical association but not banned in law. The current government includes parties openly hostile to LGBTQ rights, yet no existing right has been rolled back. Tel Aviv Pride draws up to a quarter of a million people and the city is one of the world's most openly gay; Jerusalem Pride marches under heavy guard, and a participant was murdered there in 2015. Support for same-sex marriage is a narrow majority among Jewish Israelis and far lower among Haredi and Muslim citizens.
