There/There brought a fresh queer bar to Uptown Oakland when it opened in May 2026 at 468 25th Street, in the former Friends & Family space in the KONO district. Founded by Alli Li — the first chef at the nationally acclaimed Friends & Family — it carries forward that beloved bar's role as a haven for queer people, streamlined into a more bar-focused experience. The name winks at Gertrude Stein's famous line about Oakland ("there is no there there"), and the room answers back with a warm, art-filled, genuinely queer neighborhood hangout. Expect affordable riffs on classic cocktails, a sizable nonalcoholic program, and bar-friendly food, with DJ nights, drag, and community events filling out the calendar. Smaller and more intimate than the Broadway clubs a few blocks south, it sits within easy walking distance of the 19th Street BART and the rest of Uptown's LGBTQ+ nightlife.
