About this place There/There

There/There is a queer bar at 468 25th Street in Oakland's Uptown (KONO), which opened in May 2026 in the space formerly occupied by Friends & Family. It was founded by Alli Li, the first chef at Friends & Family, and keeps that bar's role as a queer hangout. The name nods to Gertrude Stein's line about Oakland. Expect classic cocktails at fair prices, a solid non-alcoholic list, bar food, and DJ, drag and community nights. It is smaller than the clubs further south on Broadway and walkable from the 19th Street BART station.

new queer bar, amazing staff and menu. definitely a bit pricey but I am a big fan of all of the ambient lighting, one star off for the price (especially compared to other bars in the area)

I felt unwelcome. Not everyone is made to feel like they belong. There is a very political statement on the wall that makes it clear certain people are not invited to the party, so to speak. I’m surprised that a business would be so exclusionary, but then again, this country has a history of being exclusionary. It’s just sad and surprising to see it in Oakland.

A magical place that immediately felt like home for my friends and I 💕 The bar manager made the best lemon sours we ever had, the crowd was excellent (very queer), it felt very safe, had a patio area, it was busy but you could still move.. 11/10 experience. If you’re a queer woman into other queer women, get your butt inside!!

Checked it out during First Friday and it was so cute! The service was on point even though it was busy. Everyone was so friendly. Loved the bleacher seating and my cocktail was delicious. Will definitely be back. Love having this queer bar in Oakland.
