It has since gone on to become one of the best selling novels of all time. The story follows Ann and Neely, young women who move to New York in 1945 to seek fame and fortune. They love, they social climb, and meet all sorts of people that help and hurt them along the way. This book has everything! The rich, the famous, the drugs, the high life and the low. The book was controversial at the time because it was thought that certain characters were based on such folk as Judy Garland and Dean Martin and, famously, Ethel Merman. The book was also made into the great campy movie with Patty Duke and her dolls. Get ready to read a true phenomenon. November: Positive Obsession by Susana M. Morris This is a biography of Octavia Butler, one of the true trailblazers of Science Fiction writing. The book shows how Butler was truly influenced by and was a mirror to the world around her, as well as quite the future teller. From the Civil Rights Movement to Reaganomics to queer and gender studies, Butler's tales of facism, gender violence, climate chaos and relationships have influenced writers of every genre. Truly ahead of her time and timeless.
