Über diesen Ort Ocean Lodge Santa Monica Beach Hotel

Ocean Lodge Santa Monica Beach Hotel is a mainstream, mid-range hotel on Ocean Avenue in downtown Santa Monica. It is listed as gay-friendly, not as a gay hotel. The selling point is the address: the beach and Santa Monica Pier are a few minutes on foot, and Third Street Promenade is close by. Reviews are mixed (3.9 from around 350 guests), so treat it as a location buy rather than a design or service one, and check what room type you are booking. West Hollywood, the region's main gay district, is roughly 30 to 45 minutes away by car depending on traffic, so factor that in if nightlife is part of the plan.

My husband and I stayed one night at the end of our drive from Chicago on Route 66. The Ocean Lodge Beach Hotel was very convenient both to The Santa Monica Pier which is one "end" of Route 66 and to Mel's Drive in on Lincoln at Olympic, which claims it is the "official" end of Route 66. We walked there from the hotel. So either which way, my husband and I are covered. We got our official completion certificate! The room was very clean and comfortable. There is street noise because it is on Ocean Avenue, but it settled down at night except for a few loud motorcycles and cars. It is not on the beach, but it is across the street. We're not beach folks anyway, so that wasn't a big deal for us. If you are, it is really convenient to the beach. Nice manager and she gave us a recommendation to a restaurant which we liked...it was right next door to the hotel. How convenient!

The ceiling in our room was leaking and it looked like it had been leaking for quite some time. The room was incredibly expensive to have any issues like that. When we called to notify management, no one answered the phone. It is not beachfront, as they claim.

Parking is an issue. Outside looks a little rough, BUT... the rooms are cute & clean! Look just like the website shows! The staff is very nice and they service the rooms daily! Very close to the Pier and beach!
