La Terrasse is an Abidjan institution ? a bar-restaurant on the Plateau, the central business district, that draws the city's professional, diplomatic, and internationally connected crowd for after-work drinks, business lunches, and weekend evenings. Its position at the intersection of Abidjan's international business life and its social scene makes it one of the more naturally LGBTQ+-inclusive environments in the city without any explicit effort on its part to be so. The Plateau setting is key. This is the zone of embassies, international banks, law firms, and the headquarters of multinational companies operating in West Africa. The crowd at La Terrasse reflects this context: French, Lebanese, and Ivorian professionals, NGO workers, journalists, and the varied international community that Abidjan as a regional hub attracts. Within this cosmopolitan mix, LGBTQ+ visitors and Ivorian LGBTQ+ professionals move with significantly less social risk than in the broader city. La Terrasse is a better venue for daytime and early evening socialising than for late-night community gathering ? for the latter, the Cocody options are more relevant. But as a place to have lunch, meet contacts, and get oriented in Abidjan's professional social world, it is an excellent choice. The food covers French bistro standards and some West African dishes well. The wine list is respectable. The terrace setting gives it a pleasant outdoor atmosphere in the dry season evenings.
