Eagle Portland is the Portland outpost of the international Eagle bar chain — the leather and bear bar network that has operated under various ownership structures in cities across North America, Europe, and beyond since the 1970s. Portland's Eagle is located on N Lombard Street in North Portland, slightly removed from the Old Town and Downtown gay geography but well-known to the Portland leather and bear community and accessible to visitors willing to make the trip north. The Eagle format is consistent across its global network: a dark, unpretentious bar with a leather dress code (or at least leather-friendly culture), a back bar area, occasional events and theme nights focused on the leather/bear/fetish spectrum, and a social culture that is explicitly masculine-coded in the way specific to this tradition. Portland's leather community, while smaller than Seattle's or San Francisco's, is active and uses the Eagle as its primary gathering place for regular events. The N Lombard location is best reached by car or rideshare from central Portland.
