📸 Sugerir fotosSafety notice for LGBTQ+ travellers to Nigeria: Nigeria has some of the most severe anti-LGBTQ+ laws in Africa: • Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act 2014: up to 14 years imprisonment for same-sex marriage/cohabitation, 10 years for "supporting" LGBTQ+ organisations. • In 12 northern states (Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto, Yobe, Zamfara): Sharia law includes the death penalty by stoning for same-sex acts between men. • Routine raids on private gatherings, public arrests, and forced "confessions" are documented. Lagos and Abuja have small underground scenes; northern cities have effectively none. No venue in Nigeria openly advertises as gay-friendly. If you visit: • Maintain absolute discretion in public. • Avoid dating apps in northern states entirely. • Use international hotels (Hilton, Sheraton, Marriott) which provide some buffer. • Save contacts for The Initiative for Equal Rights (TIERS), which provides emergency legal support. This listing is for harm reduction. We do not recommend Nigeria as an LGBTQ+ travel destination.
