Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku

The only good thing is the location. Otherwise, plumbing issues with toilet. Flooded with just a regular shower. Toilet won't flush properly as well. Power sockets are loose. Dangerous looking wires below bed (picture). No basic amenities like bottled water because the tap water is allegedly 'good to drink' but the toilet just smells musty and weird due to plumbing issues. Luckily I'm just staying 2 nights. Will avoid in future.

Very comfortable rooms but a little bit small. The rooms were clean too. The staff was friendly and nice recommend

Review for a five-night stay: I opened the door to a small but functional room that felt a bit dingy, with drab, stained carpeting. The room itself was very clean, which I appreciated, but there was also a noticeable odor, as though the carpets and drapes needed deep cleaning. Fortunately, I was able to keep the window open during the days to air it out. It's the first time I've ever had a room in Japan that didn’t “feel” clean. The bed was quite hard, and having been to Japan three times and spent at least 50 nights across nine different hotels, I can safely say these were the most uncomfortable pillows I’ve encountered. I requested an additional mattress pad, and while one was quickly brought to my door, no one from housekeeping came to put it on the bed. The mattress pad already on the bed had visible stains in three places, which was especially off-putting. One feature I genuinely appreciated was the Smart TV. After 15,000–20,000 step days, it was nice to unwind at night with Netflix. I ate breakfast at the hotel twice. There were plenty of options, but little variety from day to day, and no flexibility with special requests. If you‘ve been to Japan, you know breakfast buffet scrambled eggs are served very soupy. I asked if a portion of scrambled eggs could be cooked a bit firmer and was told it was not possible. Most hotel restaurants are usually glad to help. The dining area also felt cramped, with tables for two packed very close together. Many reviews praise the staff, but that wasn’t really my experience. Most interactions were automated through self-check-in and check-out kiosks. On Day 3, I requested room cleaning for 1 PM or later after being told to notify the front desk of my preferred time. Despite that, housekeeping knocked at 11:30 AM and entered before I could even reach the door. Luckily, I was dressed. I had no other interaction with staff. Overall, the hotel was adequate and the location is excellent. Still, I don’t quite understand the glowing reviews. In my experience, it felt barely like a three-star property.

Best location, just across from the many Shinjuku exits and a 10 min walk down to Yoyogi station for a more peaceful experience boarding the metro/subway. Family Mart and 7/11 across the street and several food options. Basic hotel, rooms have a window that opens to allow fresh air in. Beds are comfy but the toilet isn’t the fancy one that warms the seat. The facial packet amenities aren’t that great but the other amenities in the lobby such toothbrush, qtips, etc are perfect. They have a pajama cubbie just outside of the floor elevator thats great - clean PJs daily if you wish. There is laundry where you can monitor the timing from your room and microwaves on certain floors. The limousine bus picks you up right outside- very handy so you don’t have to lug your luggage. Overall a 3 star hotel, OK for the basics and if location is key - this is your spot.

Excellent hotel location. All the staff were friendly and attentive. The room was small.
