De Gamlas Hem Hotel & Restaurant

The room was clean but very small, definitely not a double room. The bathroom was in the room, separated only by a sliding glass door. There wasn't even room to open a suitcase. An open laundry cart was left in front of the room door.

It was a great experience staying at this hotel. Good service and a great environment almost in the middle of the city. We really liked it.

Beautiful hotel within walking distance of the city center. The staff is very nice and goes the extra mile. I was able to check in earlier without any problems. Nice to sit outside on the terrace. Parking included. Free bike rental. The room was small in size, but adequate for 1 person. Clean and nice. Between 5-6 pm there was tea and coffee as well as some cake and canapés. The breakfast was simple and very good. It was a bit noisy between the rooms. Overall a nice stay. I will come back another time

The party for about 50 people went great. The space was decorated festively and the service and everything that had been agreed upon worked out brilliantly. I recommend it!

A deeply disappointing stay. I booked four nights, but on the final night I checked out at around 10 p.m. and paid €100 for a room at another hotel because I could no longer sleep in the room I had been given. The first issue was light. In summer in Oulu, it does not get properly dark at night, and the curtains in my room did not block out enough light for sleep. Perhaps this does not bother everyone, but for me it made the first three nights difficult. The final night was the real problem. My room was connected to the adjacent room by an internal door, and the sound insulation was extremely poor, to put it mildly. A family with an infant was placed in the room next to mine, and the crying was clearly audible through the wall/door, only letting up for 15-20 minutes at a time. Given how badly I had already slept, I knew there was no realistic way I would sleep there. I went to reception and asked whether I could be moved to another room, whether they had earplugs, a white-noise machine, or any other solution. Nothing. I asked whether the hotel had a policy for noise disturbances, and after I explained what I meant, I was told: “Sir, it’s a baby.” I returned later and explained again that the hotel’s core service is sleep, and that I could not sleep in that room. I was then told that this is an old building and that noise travels, but also that the hotel has newer, soundproofed rooms in another building. These were of course already booked – and the hotel lacked the basic foresight to put a screaming infant in one of the rooms with better soundproofing. So I checked out late at night and walked across the city to another hotel in order to salvage what sleep I could before travelling the next day. No partial refund or compensation was offered. The breakfast was also nothing special. During my previous stay in Oulu, the Best Western had a much larger and better-quality buffet.

Very nice hotel, small but lovely room with shower/toilet, complimentary coffee and cake until 6 pm, delicious breakfast, free on-site parking. In short: 200% fantastic!

This place has been around in some form for years and the experience of the staff shines through. The hot afternoon teas and the generous breakfasts were just two of the highlights. The beds were excellent and all the facilities worked well. I would happily stay there again.
