Liechtenstein has legal protections for same-sex couples and is generally welcoming to LGBTQ+ travelers. Major cities and tourist destinations are the most established; see each city page for the current scene and venue reviews.
Yes — same-sex marriage is legal in Liechtenstein. See the Legal Status panel on this page for the specifics. Liechtenstein decriminalised same-sex relations in 1989, introduced registered partnerships in 2011 after 69 percent approved them in a referendum, and opened marriage to same-sex couples on 1 January 2025 after the Landtag voted 24 to 1 in May 2024; existing partnerships can be converted and no new ones are created. Step-child adoption came in 2022 and full joint adoption in June 2023, both forced by State Court rulings. Incitement to hatred on grounds of sexual orientation has been a crime since 2016 and discrimination in public services and goods is prohibited, but there is no employment anti-discrimination law and gender identity is not named anywhere; legal gender change is not possible. Gay and bisexual men have donated blood on equal terms since 2022. Open discrimination is described as extremely rare and a 2017 poll found 69 percent support for same-sex marriage. With 40,000 people the principality has no gay bar; the association Flay, founded in 1998, runs social events across the Rhine valley and residents use the scenes in Zurich and Feldkirch. Visitors meet a quiet, entirely unbothered country.
The cities listed on this page have the most active LGBTQ+ scenes in Liechtenstein, typically anchored by the capital and the largest tourist cities. Each city page links to verified LGBTQ+ venues and upcoming events.
Yes — gay-friendly and gay-popular hotels are listed on each city page in Liechtenstein. International chains in central districts are reliably welcoming; independent boutique options are flagged where the community has verified them.
