Great experience in terms of food, atmosphere, and service
VanOost was easily one of the best dining experiences of our trip to Amsterdam. Every course was beautifully presented and packed with creative, well-balanced flavors. The dishes felt unique without being overly complicated, and you could tell a lot of thought and care went into every detail. What really made the evening stand out was the overall experience. The pacing was perfect, each course was thoughtfully introduced, and the service made the meal feel truly special from start to finish. If you’re looking for a memorable fine dining experience in Amsterdam, I highly recommend VanOost. I would absolutely dine here again on a future visit.
The restaurant was clean, atmospheric, and very cozily decorated. The dishes looked beautiful and tasted even better than expected. The service was friendly and took our wishes into account well. Everything was served quickly without feeling rushed. We had a wonderful evening and would love to come back again.
"A great restaurant with a perfect blend of delicious food and friendly hospitality. All the dishes were fresh and very tasty. We felt very comfortable here and can recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to spend a lovely evening."
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The wines were delicious and paired well with the dishes. The food was of high quality, with the otoro from the chef's menu being my absolute favorite. Additionally, the staff was friendly and pleasant, making the atmosphere very enjoyable.
In the past years, I have been rather consistently disappointed by restaurants in the Michelin guide — overpriced stuff with only form and with not much thought put into the flavours. That being said, VanOost gave me a bit more confidence. I also find it not so pricy.
A 2-Michelin-Star Culinary Masterpiece for the Perfect End to Our Trip For our last night before heading back to the United States, we stayed at the spectacular Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits at the Park in Amsterdam. It was undoubtedly a great choice. Within this luxurious hotel is VanOost Restaurant, an award-winning gastronomic space boasting no less than 2 Michelin stars, helmed by chef Floris van Straalen. We had our reservation for 7:30 p.m. After reviewing the menu beforehand, we knew that this closing dinner—after three busy weeks on our Grand European Tour with Viking—was going to be one to enjoy to the fullest, without sparing any expense. We arrived on time, our reservation was checked, and we were shown to an elegant pre-dinner lounge. We received a fantastic welcome with a couple of small, warm towels to gently refresh ourselves, and were offered drinks: we opted for wine and an excellent draft beer, along with a delicious appetizer to share. From the very first moment, the service was incredible, highly personalized, and impeccable. Following our servers' guidance, we opted for the chef's tasting menu: a seven-course culinary journey. Each dish that arrived at the table was a true work of visual and conceptual art. A marvelous fusion of haute French cuisine with subtle yet powerful touches of Southeast Asia (especially Indonesian influences) and hints of the Middle East was clearly evident. The textures, the fine, colorful, and geometric finishes (like their impeccable snacks and appetizers decorated with edible flowers and microgreens) were otherworldly. Furthermore, each time a dish arrived, the server provided a detailed historical and technical introduction. As I am a man who loves to ask about every detail, the staff answered each question with admirable professionalism and knowledge. We spent a little over three hours at the restaurant; The timing was perfectly reasonable and ideal for processing and appreciating the level of detail in the presentation and the balance of flavors in each course. At the end, we left completely satisfied with the experience, and the staff had the lovely touch of escorting us kindly right to the door. A visit to a gastronomic temple like VanOost is about letting go and enjoying yourself without restraint. A world-class experience that I absolutely recommend!
