✓ Relaciones del mismo sexo legales ✓ Matrimonio igualitario ✓ Eventos del Orgullo ⚖️ Slovenia legalised same-sex marriage and joint adoption on 31 January 2023, the first country in Central and Eastern Europe to do so, after the Constitutional Court ruled in June 2022 that excluding same-sex couples was unconstitutional; registered partnerships had existed since 2006 and near-marital partnerships since 2017. Lesbian couples gained IVF access in 2024. Same-sex relations have been legal since 1977, employment discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation since 2003, and nationwide protection for sexual orientation, gender identity and expression since 2016. Legal gender change is available without surgery. Public opinion trails the courts: a 2015 referendum rejected marriage equality, a 2023 Eurobarometer found only 42 percent agreeing LGB people should have equal rights, and the 2023 Ljubljana Pride was marred by threats and flag burnings. Ljubljana's Metelkova district and the long-running Café Open are the heart of a small, friendly scene, and Ljubljana Pride in June draws a few thousand. Lake Bled and the coast at Piran see plenty of LGBTQ visitors without incident.
