Bar Rouge

Bar Rouge sits perched 105 meters above Basel, offering breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding countryside – definitely a highlight that makes a visit worthwhile. The bar's atmosphere is generally pleasant, but unfortunately, certain details betray its age. The somewhat sticky floor and the pervasive smell of alcohol suggest that it's a popular party spot, especially in the evenings – understandable, but it detracts somewhat from the bar's sophisticated ambiance. The decor also shows signs of wear in places, which isn't entirely surprising after around 20 years of operation. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our visit. The friendly service, the expertly mixed cocktails, and, of course, the unique view make Bar Rouge a special place – ideal for a stylish drink overlooking Basel. A fresh interior update could make this experience even more impressive.

A visit to this bar is a must during any trip to Basel. Great drinks menu and the fries with two dips are absolutely amazing! The view is incredible. And you'll definitely have to go to the restroom... best view ever! 😂 The bar could use a renovation.

On Saturday evening (June 7th) around 1:45 a.m., I was with two friends in front of the entrance to Bar Rouge. We were the only customers there. We walked up to the woman checking tickets and stopped in front of her. She looked at us, we looked at her – but nobody said anything. I already suspected the situation was a bit awkward and strange. After 5 to 10 seconds of silence, I asked, "Is Bar Rouge still open?" She replied, "Yes, it's open." Then there was still nothing. My friend then asked, "So, can we go in?" She replied, "Yes, it's difficult for guys without female company." To which I said, "Ah, is that so? I didn't know that, I've never been to Bar Rouge before." My friend then asked, "So what does this mean for us? Are we allowed in or not?" We received no answer. She continued to look us up and down. I asked again, "Do I need female company or are we allowed in?" Still no answer. After a few more seconds, she said, "Yeah, show me your ID." My colleague gave her his ID, but I hesitated. I asked, "Are we allowed in too, or are you just going to look at our IDs?" She didn't seem to like that at all. She immediately became defensive and passive-aggressive and said, "Well, you don't have to go in if you don't want to." That's exactly what I did. I didn't show my ID, turned around, and left. I understand that Bar Rouge isn't just any bar in Kleinbasel. Nevertheless, I'm still wondering what the point of it all was. We were neatly dressed, not drunk, and, in my opinion, polite. Even so, I had the feeling that the woman was playing games with us. Her manner completely put me off ever wanting to go into the bar again. After we left, we went to another bar and had a very pleasant Saturday evening/Sunday morning there. I think it's a shame for Bar Rouge, which, to my knowledge, actually has a good reputation. If employees like that give potential customers their first impression, it doesn't reflect well on the establishment.

DONT GO THERE ! If you want visit Basel this club i don't recommend to you ! No friends bar ! All cost you double ! Bad experience!

I especially loved the combination of bar and club – you can relax with a drink and then go dancing later. The music was great and the atmosphere was fantastic all evening. Definitely a place I'll gladly visit again. Highly recommended!"
