Hotel Britannia Manchester

Listen to other reviews before you book! This was an incredibly poor hotel experience from start to finish. When I arrived, the check-in experience took around half an hour with a request for my ID to match the booking name made (another had made it on my behalf). I spoke to four different people to have this rectified. Once finally checked in, I arrived to my fifth floor room to a dirty floor with dead wasps and floss. This I can tolerate, however the outrageous amount of noise from the cars on the street I could not. My hotel room looked out on to Portland Street, and the single glazing made it feel like I was standing on the street itself. It’s very rare that I ask to be moved hotel room, but if I wanted a good night’s sleep then it was necessary. Upon complaining, I was told that it wasn’t that noisy up there (as the fifth floor) compared to the lower levels. I can only imagine! The new room I was offered was on the 6th floor, with no lift. I accepted on the grounds that I could not stay in the fifth floor room. This room was a little better as it faced away from Portland Street, but the general cleanliness was not. I found hairs in my shower, and it was clear that the control for the radiator had broken long ago. Upon trying to sleep, I could hear every word uttered from next door, who must have been gearing up for a night out. I would have said something to hotel staff, but the staff had stated previously to me that there was ‘nothing they could do’ about noisy guests. Therefore as a solo female guest, I couldn’t do anything. I managed to get a little sleep before my conference the following day, but that was thanks to my trusty earplugs. Do not book!

Terrible room terrible service. Booked a twin room with window but got a room without window and dim lights. One of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed at.

They don’t answer the call on the time. And they don’t have anything to do warm the customer food up .

Huge room.

Very old looking hotel, really nice tho, seems fancy for the cheap price I paid both times. Had both a double and a single room and this location before, the double room was spacious and lovely. The single was small, more cramped but not a bad experience by any means. Just a big difference between the room types. Great location in city centre!

It was very strange to hear that after staying for a week, the rooms would not be cleaned, towels would not be changed, you had to take out the trash yourself, it was kind of horrible 😨 The windows hadn't been cleaned in 100 years, there was a lot of dust, and there was no toilet brush in the toilet.

Last night me and my friend (both females) came to this hotel, and during the night we both ordered food, my friend went outside to collect hers first, it was late at night almost 1am, a few guys outside had started hitting on her and asking her if she was staying in that hotel, how old she is, where she I from etc.. calling her pretty. When she came back inside she told this to me, my food was a few minutes away and so I waited next to the guard by the door because I felt too nervous to wait outside based on my friends experience. My friend told this to the gaurd when he asked what happened and we said we were just waiting for food, he then told us to go wait outside after we had just told him the uncomfortable experience my friend had!! We went outside and waited for my food and it had some issues so I had to wait an extra 10 minutes, we were both in shorts and the guy came back up to us, he had blood on his arm from getting into a fight and he wouldn't leave us alone and kept talking to us, I kept looking back to the gaurd inside trying to signal help and he did nothing. Another guy across the road from us was holding a glass bottle and folding over completely from drugs, he was walking closer to us. We felt so unsafe as we are young girls and forced to wait outside for our food instead of being able to wait inside next to the gaurd. It's honestly so upsetting the situation we were put in and if something were to happen, because of the door being locked during the night it would have been more difficult to quickly retreat back inside. You would expect a gaurd to be there to keep people safe, instead he made us go outside where the danger was, after we had just expressed the previous situation to him. If you are a young girl just be careful going to this hotel as the staff/gaurd won't keep you safe.

I don’t like to complain in life but the room here was an issue. It’s been a week since my visit to this hotel and my body has been itching since. The minute I stepped in the room, it felt like bugs were crawling on my face. My skin became immediately itchy. I complained to the manager at the front desk and he told me ‘we’re fully booked and unable to get you a room change’. I went back to my room and opened up the windows, I got in the bed to rest as it was a long 7 hour flight before landing in Manchester. I fell asleep straight away. I woke up about 20 mins later to my whole body tearing with itch. I jumped in the shower. My body hasn’t been the same since. I’ve had to bin all of my bedding at home. The Brittania hotel room was infested with either bed bugs or hives. I spoke to a few other people in the hotel at checkout and they said their bodies were itching as well. The bathroom stinks of damp. You honestly don’t expect a 5 star experience when you see the staff that work there but you expect a clean bedroom for £110. This was a bad experience. I paid £110 for my room. 1 night.

I had during my stay at your hotel last night. After initially staying for one night, I requested to extend my stay for an additional two nights. However, I was given two completely different prices by different members of staff, which caused unnecessary confusion and frustration. To make matters worse, I was told I had to check out and then check back in again, despite already being a guest at the hotel. Throughout the situation, the service I received felt very unprofessional and unhelpful. Instead of trying to resolve the issue smoothly, it felt as though staff were unwilling to assist me properly. As a paying customer, I expected clear communication, consistency, and a much higher standard of customer service. This experience caused significant inconvenience and left me very dissatisfied with my stay
