Gay Saunas in Madrid: The Honest 2026 Guide
Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and local and international sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change
Madrid keeps late hours. Lunch starts at two, the terraces of Chueca fill up after nine, and a Sunday afternoon can stretch from a glass of red vermut on tap to the early evening without anyone checking the time. The sauna scene follows the same clock: a cluster of venues just north of Gran Vía, a few more around Santo Domingo and down the hill in Lavapiés, and a handful that run through the night or right across the weekend. In short: Madrid has eight gay saunas active in 2026, but the quality is uneven, several famous names have closed, and two venues have swapped addresses, so read the notes below before you take a taxi.
Legal in one line: Spain opened civil marriage to same-sex couples in 2005 and has broad national equality and anti-discrimination laws; gay saunas are legal, licensed private venues for adults (18+), and some ask for ID at the door.
North of Gran Vía: Paraíso, Octopus and Príncipe
These three are the core of the scene, a short walk from Chueca and Malasaña. Travel Gay reports that they share the same management.

Sauna Paraíso · Calle del Norte 15
The big one: about 1,400 m², according to its own website, in the Conde Duque side of Malasaña (Metro Noviciado or Plaza de España). The site lists a Finnish dry sauna, a Turkish bath, a heated pool and a large jacuzzi, 30 private cabins, three darkrooms, a cinema room, a glory hole and a BDSM area with a cell, a "horse", a St Andrew's cross and a sling, plus a bar with drinks and snacks and free Wi-Fi.
Hours: the website gives 10:00–23:59 from Tuesday to Friday and, at weekends, access from Friday to Monday "10:00 to 23:59 (continuous)", and elsewhere says it is open 24 hours at weekends and on holidays. In practice: from 10:00 on weekdays, and non-stop over the weekend. Prices (official): €17 Monday to Thursday, €20 on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and the eve of holidays, including a locker, two towels, slippers and a condom. Massages cost €30–50 by appointment. Phone 915 22 58 99.
Paraíso says it is aimed at men of roughly 18 to 35 but that the crowd is mixed. Smoking is banned and drug use means expulsion, according to the house rules. 2026 visitors praise the size, the pool and the jacuzzi, and complain about tired changing rooms and staff who speak little English.
Sauna Octopus · Calle de Churruca 10
The bear sauna, between Tribunal and Bilbao metro stations: about 1,000 m² with a dry sauna, steam room, heated pool, two darkrooms, 20 private cabins, a cinema, a maze and massage service, for "mature men and their admirers". Hours: daily 10:00–00:00. Price: listed at about €15 on weekdays and €16 at weekends; 2026 visitors report paying €16–17. One visitor this year found it shut after midnight on a Friday although some online listings showed it open 24 hours at weekends, so plan on the midnight close. A June 2026 visitor put the peak at around 17:00 on Sundays.
Sauna Príncipe · Travesía de las Beatas 3
A traditional sauna near Gran Vía and Plaza de España for a mature crowd, especially bears and bigger men. Listings describe a dry sauna, steam bath, a large jacuzzi, two levels of dark labyrinths, about 20 private cabins and two darkrooms. Hours vary between listings (daily from 10:00 or 13:00 until around midnight or 01:00), and prices are not published, so call ahead. 2026 reviews are mixed: good facilities and pool, but complaints about staff, smoking in the cruising areas and lights going on before closing.
Around Santo Domingo: SaunaBeach and Sauna Center
SaunaBeach · Cuesta de Santo Domingo 1
The party sauna, a few steps from Santo Domingo metro and Gran Vía, formerly known as CenterBeach (and before that the home of the original Sauna Center). Three floors with a beach-bar theme: a bar, Finnish sauna and Turkish bath, jacuzzi, darkrooms, cabins, an XXX cinema, a maze, fetish spaces and a terrace. Hours: Monday to Wednesday 10:00–00:00, then 24 hours from Thursday to Sunday. Price: €5–20 depending on the night or event, according to listings; the day pass is reported to include a locker, towel, flip-flops, condoms and a drink. Recent reviews are polarised: some love the busy weekend nights, others report dirty corners, people smoking despite the signs, cold showers and drug use.
Sauna Center · Calle de Valverde 32
Travel Gay and other current listings now place Sauna Center at Calle de Valverde 32 (Metro Gran Vía), the former home of Sauna Olimpo; its old address on Cuesta de Santo Domingo is now SaunaBeach. It is listed as open 24 hours, every day, with two renovated floors, a bar and dance floor, dry sauna, steam room, darkroom, gym, massage and around 100 cabins. 2026 reviewers mention paying about €17–18. Know before you go: its 2026 reviews are the harshest of any Madrid sauna, with complaints about cleanliness, broken showers and saunas, drug use and locker thefts. Some still like it as an all-hours last stop. Use a locker for nothing you can't lose.
South: Lavapiés and Puerta de Toledo
Sauna Lavapiés · Calle de Zurita 3
Down the hill in multicultural Lavapiés (Metro Antón Martín or Lavapiés), renovated in 2017: dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, bar, darkroom, labyrinth and private cabins, with themed days announced on its social media. Hours: daily 14:00–06:00. Price: roughly €11–18 depending on the day and time (cheaper on some weekdays, more after midnight). 2026 visitors call it clean and spacious, with a hot dry sauna and a good jacuzzi, but often quiet; the crowd is mixed and frequently older. Go in the late afternoon or at the weekend.
Sauna Puerta de Toledo · Cuesta de las Descargas 6
A small neighbourhood sauna near the Puerta de Toledo, mainly for men over 40 who drop in after work. It has a dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, private cabins, a sling and a darkroom, but no bar, just a vending machine. Hours: daily 14:00–23:00. Price: visitors report €15–16, and Travel Gay notes free entry on your birthday with ID. Recent reviews range from "clean and relaxed" to "empty", and a couple of 2026 visitors found it shut when it should have been open, so call first.
Out of the centre: Thermas New Moratalaz
Thermas New Moratalaz (formerly Nuevas Thermas Moratalaz), at Calle de José del Prado y Palacio 5 in the residential Moratalaz district east of the centre, is a local sauna with a darkroom, video room and bar, popular with older bears and their younger admirers. Listed hours are daily 11:00–21:00; one 2025 visitor paid €15. Reviews from 2025–2026 praise the friendly staff but describe worn facilities. Worth it only if you are staying nearby.
Closed or changed: Sauna Olimpo (Calle de Valverde 32) is marked closed by Travel Gay, and its address is now listed for Sauna Center. Sauna Center has left Cuesta de Santo Domingo 1, which is now SaunaBeach (ex-CenterBeach). Sauna Gran Vía (Calle del Barco 6), Sauna Adán (Calle de San Bernardo 38) and Sauna Men (Calle de Pelayo 25) have closed. Older guides, including some of ours, may still show the old names and addresses.
Look after yourself. Several 2026 reviews of Madrid saunas report locker thefts and drug use on the premises. Bring only what you need, keep your locker key on your wrist, and don't accept drinks or substances from strangers. Consent applies everywhere, darkrooms included: you can always say no, move away or leave, and staff should act if someone ignores that. If you have a problem, tell reception, and for a crime call 112.
A Madrid afternoon
Do it the local way. A caña (small draught beer) or a vermut with olives on a Chueca terrace around 13:30; lunch late, ideally the menú del día; a bocadillo de calamares (fried-squid sandwich) near Plaza Mayor if you're heading south to Lavapiés. Then the sauna in the slow hours of the afternoon, when Madrid naps or pretends to. At night the bars of Chueca fill after eleven, and if you end up in a 24-hour sauna at dawn, finish with churros con chocolate before bed.
Practical tips
- What's included: entry normally includes a locker, towel and slippers. At some saunas you pay entry and drinks at a ticket machine.
- Getting around: the Metro runs until about 01:30; after that, take a night bus (búho), a taxi or a ride-hailing app (Cabify, Uber and FreeNow all operate in Madrid). Most saunas are within a 15-minute walk of Gran Vía; Lavapiés is downhill, and the walk back is uphill.
- Timing: weekday afternoons are quiet; Sunday afternoons and late weekend nights are busiest. Madrid runs late, so a sauna that is empty at 20:00 can be full at 02:00.
- Apps: Grindr is the main app; Scruff is popular with bears.
- Sexual health: PEP is available through hospital emergency departments (urgencias), and the city's Centro Sanitario Sandoval is the public specialist clinic for STIs. Condoms are handed out or sold at most venues.
- Hola – hi. Gracias – thank you.
- ¿Cuánto cuesta la entrada? – how much is entry?
- Toalla – towel. Chanclas – flip-flops. Taquilla – locker.
- Cuarto oscuro – darkroom. Cabina – private cabin.
- Abierto 24 horas – open 24 hours. Cerrado – closed. Festivo – public holiday.
- No, gracias – no, thanks (enough, and always respected).
- Caña – small draught beer. Vermut – vermouth, the Sunday ritual.
Madrid Pride (MADO)
MADO 2026 ran from Thursday 25 June to Sunday 5 July 2026. The state Pride march (Manifestación Estatal) took place on Saturday 4 July from 19:00, from Atocha to Colón, and free concerts filled Plaza de Pedro Zerolo in Chueca, Puerta del Sol, Plaza de España and Plaza del Rey from 1 to 5 July. Expect every sauna to be at capacity and hotel prices to soar that week; 2027 dates had not been announced at the time of writing.
