A bartender at happy hour on Saturday night 🤨!

I was visiting the city and came here a couple times during the weekend at night. It's a really chill and local gay-friendly bar with a relaxed vibe. Nice people all around and the bartender was a really nice guy. Definitely worth a visit.

Plentiful seating, helpful staff, cold beer and it tasted great!

It's a cool bar with a more mature clientele and themed nights like bears, leather, divas, etc. For the best experience, you need cash; cards aren't accepted. ✌️

I went to St-Matthews for the first time on Friday, August 29, 2025. No servers, only two bartenders to serve customers. The wait time for a beer was about 40 minutes. Cash only, and the older, bald-headed bartender was deeply unhappy and unpleasant. I placed a $30 order. I gave him a $6 tip, and he didn't seem happy. I went back on Saturday, August 30, 2025; my bill was $6.75. I gave him a $2 tip. He gave me $3.25 back out of $20. He ignored me when I asked for my $10. He had a terrible attitude; he practically threw my $10 at me. The older, bald-headed bartender is due to retire; things aren't going well. He's not managing the business. And he would probably be happier in a pet shop or an isolated office. Both nights, all the bar's customers talked about was this grumpy, very slow bartender who provided terrible customer service.

Apparently the hottest gay bar right now for a weekend night out. Remember music, 80s, 90s... High average age, late on weekend nights. Average service, polite but nothing special.

Not a flashy or fancy bar, its a neighborhood place with plenty of locals. We visit remembering that we are guests in someone else’s house and have appreciated the welcome that we have received and most of the people that we have met. It IS unfortunate that they take cash only. It probably slows the staff down a little but c’est comme ça so “when in Rome…” As États-Uniens we always make sure that we order enough $ Ca at our home bank for just such situations before we head to Québec. We’ve enjoyed slower nights at this bar just because it’s given us more of the opportunity to speak with the bartender and other clients and have a laugh. Merci comme toujours Bar St-M et nous attendons avec impatience notre prochaine visite.

I frequent this establishment mainly for the drag queen shows (every other Saturday). Great performances by talented artists! Entry is free and the drinks are reasonably priced. Generally a mature, male clientele.
