✗ Relaciones del mismo sexo legales ✗ Matrimonio igualitario ✗ Eventos del Orgullo ⚖️ Trinidad and Tobago is the only Caribbean country to have decriminalised and then recriminalised. The High Court struck down the buggery and gross indecency laws in April 2018; in March 2025 the Court of Appeal reversed that ruling, restoring the offences while cutting the maximum sentence for buggery to five years and gross indecency to two. The Privy Council heard the final appeal in July 2026 and a judgment is expected before the end of the year. There is no recognition of same-sex couples, no adoption for them, no anti-discrimination law covering sexual orientation or gender identity, and no legal gender change; a 2016 Caribbean Court of Justice ruling does stop the country barring gay CARICOM nationals at the border. Enforcement against consenting adults is not known to happen. Port of Spain has held a Pride parade since 2018, CAISO has campaigned since 2009, and the country is generally described as relatively safe for gay visitors, with a discreet bar scene in Port of Spain and a relaxed atmosphere in Tobago. Carnival draws large numbers of LGBTQ travellers every February without incident.
