Shakey's

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ve been a regular at Shakey’s for quite some time, and it’s become so much more than just my neighborhood dive bar, it’s genuinely become my second home. Morgan, Mitch, Cole, Cara, Lisa, and Ricky have created a space where people feel welcomed, accepted, and cared for. It’s the first bar I bring friends to when they come into town because I know they’ll be treated like family. We’ve celebrated birthdays, engagements, divorces, new jobs, bad days, and random Tuesday nights here. That’s what Shakey’s is to so many of us: a community. I was also present during the interaction that prompted a recent one-star review, and what I personally witnessed was very different from what was described. The employee involved was off duty. From where I was sitting, I saw him tap the table to get her attention. When she stood up and got into his personal space, he briefly touched her chair while explaining why he had approached her. He then stepped back several feet and crouched down to speak at her eye level. I never saw him grab or put his hands on her. What I did witness was the interaction ending with her aggressively grabbing him by both shoulders and yelling at him before leaving. Afterward, several people nearby wanted to confront her, but he stopped them, saying she had likely been drinking and that he didn’t want the situation to escalate any further. As another Black patron in a predominantly white crowd, I also found it unsettling to later read an account that left out the physical aggression I personally watched happen toward him. Everyone is entitled to their experience, but I’m also entitled to mine. Mine is that Shakey’s has consistently been a safe, welcoming, inclusive place for me and my friends. One interaction I witnessed firsthand doesn’t erase the countless nights this bar and its staff have made people, including me, feel like we belonged. I’ll continue bringing friends here, celebrating milestones here, and supporting a place that has given so many of us a community, not just a bar.

This 1 star review does not reflect on the bartender or the door girl on (tues 6/30) the service was great aside from the interaction I had with an off duty ‘employee’. I had 1 drink at this bar on booty tuesdays, went outside for a smoke closed my eyes on the porch for a second while my friends were chatting because I had be up all day, totally harmless in the presence of my friends doing a lil quick shut eye as a man who claimed to me on the clock, grab me and yell at me ‘can’t be sleeping at the bar’ totally understandable but absolutely no reason to put his hands on a woman. He persisted to keep going on and on after I had opened my eyes, harassing me and my friends. I quickly realized he wasn’t an employee on the clock as he had a drink in his hand while harassing my friends and I. This was an employee off the clock, most likely drunk with said drink in hand, harassing and policing, me, a woman for simply having my eyes closed on the smoke deck for a mere moment. The bouncer for the evening quickly apologized and stated ‘This has been a problem with this employee on several occasions’ but this individual was not in fact removed from the bar. If this has happened on several occasions as the bouncer stated after apologizing to me several times, i’d hope this individual would be removed for the night or even fired for this behavior towards patrons just taking a quick shut eye after a long day at work and trying to simply enjoy a queer night at a bar during pride month. This was basically my first night at shakey’s as a local and being severely disappointed is an understatement. This ‘off duty employee’ made myself as a woman feel uncomfortable while putting my friends in an uncomfortable situation to de-escalate because the bouncer only simply yelled at him to stop. Not on her, I know she just works there and is simply only paid so much to put up with drunk A-holes. This establishment proved to not to be a safe space for queer people as patrons. I felt specifically targeted as a fem person by a man which was very misogynistic in my opinion. The same man who put his hands on me and accosted to me simply for having my eyes shut for a moment didn’t seem to mind or reprimand the houseless individual for breaking beer bottles on the porch. Shakey’s do better.

What a great vibe! Awesome music and great people. I have always been welcomed in with open arms. They have active pool tables every day. The staff is incredible. Ask for Gobi 😉

Morgan was amazing!! As a New Yorker, we dream of a place like this. We felt welcomed from the moment we entered. Omg this a place to come to if you are visiting .. Daniel and Morgan are awesome.

Such a cute spot. Amazing owner/bartender he even gave me some great tips for nearby places to visit while on a day trip. He was so friendly. 3 pool tables, a vending machine, a dance floor, amazing decor, and good drinks!!! There’s even a nice view from the patio. I definitely will be coming back next time I visit so I can try the food.

This place is clutch

Had a fantastic time here, ppl are very sociable and friendly, also Lucy is cutest bar dog ever!!! I’ve never seen a dog in a bar before this is def a great experience

Front door lady is a contemptuous and hateful door "greeter". Attempted to go there for an after wedding party. While looking for a trash can, I finished my one sip left in my seltzer as I stepped into the huge parking lot from the sidewalk when the door curmudgeon screamed at me to leave. Not only did I say ok and that I was just looking for a trash can, can she continued to scream, called me a liar, and doing her best to embarrass me. No prob if you took issue with me having a final sip while looking for a trash can, but the complete lack of being a decent human being while screaming like an absolute banshee is enough for me to write my 2nd review ever. I should've known better though because the 2 groups who were leaving as I walked up were doing nothing but complaining about the place as they left. Also to add, check out their Yelp comments...completely supports my brief experience with the horrible door curmudgeon.

From the pool tables to the bar a great place.

I can’t recommend this bar for the LGBT+ community. My partner was physically assaulted and we got asked to leave, people are getting served too much alcohol and groping/attacking queer people.
