Wingate by Wyndham St. Clairsville / Wheeling

This hotel is clean. Great appearance with a great price in these times of inflation. I’m pretty particular about where I stay but have no problem giving this hotel a five star.

We’ve stayed at this hotel for the past three years, the same time a year and every year the main lobby has multiple ceiling leaks. Unfortunately, the issue still hasn’t been fixed. The room itself is comfortable, which is why I’m giving three stars, but the overall experience has declined. The pool has been out of service for two months, and we weren’t notified before arriving. Staff claimed an email had been sent, but no one in our group with 5 reservations received one. Considering the pool is a major amenity for the kids, a discount or some form of compensation would have been appropriate. The cleanliness of the common areas was mediocre, and breakfast now ends at 9:30 a.m. instead of 10:00 a.m., which is inconvenient after late nights. They also attempted to charge us $50 to check in just one hour early. After I pointed out that the hotel’s website states early check-in is $25, the fee was waived, but the whole situation seemed off. The one bright spot was the wonderful woman who prepares the breakfast each morning, she was friendly, hardworking, and deserves five stars for her excellent service. Overall, the hotel has potential, but after three years of the same unresolved maintenance issues and declining amenities, we’re disappointed.

Great value for the price Clean room and bedding. Decent Breakfast

I had the privilege of staying at the Wingate Hotel, and from the moment I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is in such a beautiful location and immediately set the tone for a great stay. When I walked in, I was greeted by a manager named Michelle. She was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and carried herself in a way that showed she had years of experience in hospitality. She truly became a bright spot in my day and went above and beyond to make accommodations that turned this stay into one of the highlights of my trip to the area. The room itself was spotless—clean, immaculate, and comfortable. The bed was cozy, the air conditioning was already keeping the room fresh and comfortable, and the bathroom was exceptionally clean. Even the location of my room added to the experience and made the stay feel even more special. The lobby was beautiful and welcoming as well. On my way out, I happened to run into Michelle again to say goodbye, and it felt like the perfect ending to such an amazing stay. I was honestly frustrated with myself for taking so long to choose a hotel—but now I know the search was worth it. This ended up being one of my favorite hotel stays, and I would absolutely stay here again.

Very nice & Clean rooms. Staff was friendly . Prices were good. Breakfast was ok. Would like to have had some type of meat, besides just the sausage gravy. Other than that, it was a nice stay.
