My first time at a show and everyone was so kind and welcoming. Great drink options, incredible queens, kings, and monarchs. Happy Pride!

I'll never understand the flagrant and very public use of the R word...

Hello, So it has taken me quite some time to write this. As a resident of Evansville for over 25 years, and a customer of this bar for just as many, I've sat quietly. First, let me say... I love this bar. Its our only gay bar. It's our safe space. Its our home. I enjoy the people, the space, the friends. Unfortunately, there is a but... A lot has changed the past several years. I have noticed the crowd changes, or the lack of crowds. The dance floor empty. The drag shows empty. The energy is empty. The positivity is empty. It truly breaks my heart. I travel quite a bit to larger cities and cities the size of Evansville and bars the size of SPE. I will say the atmosphere, shows, and drag here is completely different. I know, understand, and support the different kinds of drag and creativity... but, this area wants certain drag and clearly after seeing the audiences or lack of, I don't feel SPE is hitting what the audience here wants unfortunately. OR maybe there's too much of it? Drag shows 4 nights a week is extreme. I have been on a Thursday and been the only member in the audience, and on a Sunday and been the only member in the audience, like what's the point? Is there a manager or a show director that is setting expectations and criteria of performers? I am unsure of who the manager is, are they watching the shows? monitoring the staff? Is the owner there doing the same? I am just curious? I know several very beautiful and talented drag queens and kings in this area that refuse to perform at the bar because of reputation, current performers, and drama. Which brings me to another topic. I am one to not get into the drama, but I am a customer that follows and tries to support the local performers on their social media.... and all I can say is Wow. All you have to do is follow them, go through that rabbit hole and you can learn sooooo much! Does the manager/owner not control/monitor that either? I am not here to bash, be negative, but also it puts the bar in a bad light in this community, and EVERYWHERE. I've seen a lot of queens from near and far on these other queens pages, which is great! Networking is key! I have just seen a lot behaviors, looks, drama, intoxicated bartenders, etc. from staff that is so disheartening that it makes me, and a lot of people in this community not want to attend or support the bar and the queens and kings that DESERVE to have our support. That bar is a safe place and home to a lot of people and hate to see it end, but have a bad feeling that the end is near. I want SPE to continue to live on! I hope changes happen soon so we can all can continue to go. I am going to take a break from it for while in hopes that it will rebirth, and prosper, and get back to what Miss Ellen would have wanted it to be. :)
