My husband and I stayed at Griffin Gate for a weekend get-away. I very specifically picked a balcony room because we wanted to get up in the morning, sit on the balcony with a cup of coffee and start the day off relaxing. That was the plan and we were very much looking forward to it. Now I did notice that the rates seemed shockingly low so I should not have been surprised when I got my confirmation email and it had a bunch of alerts; one being that the AC was being renovated and possibly would not be in working order. That's a deal breaker so I immediately called the hotel and was assured that a room on the "newly renovated side of the hotel" was assigned to us and we would have AC. And I was told it was an upgraded room from what a reserved. And it had a balcony. Great! When we got to the hotel I was immediately impressed with the grounds as the hotel is beautifully landscaped and the hotel itself looks like it came straight out of a movie set from a National Lampoon Vacation movie that I found thrilling. I love a good 80s vibe and this hotel had all of it. Checking in was easy and the front desk staff was very friendly. And then we got to our room. Our "upgraded" room. The room was clean, the bed linens were fresh and the towels were nice. It was a bigger room. But upgrade? There was mold in the shower, there were several signs of age, hastily done renovations (the soap shelf in the shower was loose and moldy, the shower knob plate was loose, what appeared and I hope to God was wallpaper glue was on the walls in several places... stuff like this), we could not get Netflix to work on the TV as it kept saying the internet connection was out, and don't get me started on the completely unusable balcony. The balcony I insisted on. The balcony that this whole trip was based around was absolutely filthy with dirt, a previous guest's trash including a fake nail and a concerning amount of bird droppings. It also was positioned so that it sat facing what appeared to be a glass ceiling from the floor below and then someone else's balcony. So completely unusable. I didn't say anything to the staff or complain because this was not a fixable situation and I did not want to risk having to be moved to the side that had not been renovated yet as I could not even imagine. And I would not be complaining at all but y'all sent me a survey and asked so here we are.... After two days of being in this hotel it was quite obvious that whoever owns it just cannot keep up with it. The carpets in every area we visited were in desperate need of vacuuming. The furniture in the lobby is in desperate need of a good steam cleaning. Someone needs to be walking around that hotel at all times just wiping surfaces off with a soapy rag because there is just a layer of grime everywhere. Someone else actually mentioned in a review the strong smell of air freshener in their room and it is really really bad in the hallways. It was so bad in some places that I literally had to hold my breath because I could not breathe. This is not a good place for people with asthma or any kind of lung related health issues. I get that this hotel is busy but you've got to figure out how to keep up because the hotel is just dirty. And then when we went to leave I am that guest that always tries to leave their room tidy so I gather and pile all the towels, I wipe all surfaces off and I strip the bed. Lord help I should have skipped that step. The bed itself seemed OK and had a clean mattress pad on it, but one pillow I was sleeping with was covered in stains and one my husband had actually had a Best Western tag on it. Best Western? Come on guys I can't make some of this stuff up and I do have pictures to prove it. Y'all have got to do better. This hotel with all of it's 80's charm could be SO COOL, especially to those of us who grew up on National Lampoon Vacation movies. I was so excited when I saw this building in person but when you get inside it's just not taken care of. Please do better. Please.

50 cars were broken into last night in parking lot , the security is terrible . We asked if they were going to get extra security and girl at desk said no. I would not stay someplace where it is not safe . Terrible management

What a wonderful reminder that you don't have to travel far to feel like you're on vacation! We recently enjoyed a staycation at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort & Spa, and it exceeded our expectations. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully appointed. Having a private balcony overlooking the property made it even more relaxing, and it was the perfect place to enjoy my morning coffee and unwind. We spent the afternoon at the outdoor pool with cocktails in hand, and I even found time to sit back and read a book—something I rarely get to do. The resort atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for. We also appreciated that there's a large indoor pool and jacuzzi for year-round enjoyment. One of the highlights of our stay was Music at the Mansion on Friday evening. The live music, beautiful setting, and fun atmosphere made for a memorable night. It's such a unique event and a wonderful addition to an already great resort experience. The breakfast buffet the next morning was delicious with plenty of options, and it was nice having an onsite restaurant and bar so we never had to leave the property. Although we didn't visit the spa this trip, we've enjoyed it in the past and highly recommend it. The massages and spa services are excellent and definitely worth adding to your stay. It's also great to see amenities like the golf course, pickleball courts, pool cabanas, and social memberships available for guests and locals alike. The entire property was clean, beautifully maintained, and the staff was welcoming throughout our visit. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway without leaving Lexington, I highly recommend treating yourself to a staycation at Marriott Griffin Gate Resort & Spa. Sometimes the best vacations are right in your own backyard!

Hotel was clean. I love most of the Marriotts, and this would've been 4 stars but our AC wasn't cold. The parking lot has lots of shade which was really nice when unloading.
