INNESS

We stayed at Inness in Accord, NY and unfortunately the experience fell well below expectations, especially given the price point. This is marketed and priced like a five-star resort, but the reality felt closer to a 3.5 to 4 star experience, primarily due to service and execution issues. We booked a “private cabin,” but it wasn’t truly private. Each cabin has two units, and there is essentially no sound insulation between them. We could clearly hear everything from the neighboring group, down to coughing, and they had a dog that barked frequently at night and early in the morning. That alone made it hard to relax or feel like we had the secluded escape we were expecting. The room itself was fine and the bed was comfortable, but there were several small misses that added up. No bottled water provided, unpleasant tap water, and a shower that wouldn’t get properly hot, barely above lukewarm. We also wanted to use the fireplace, but the kindling kit hadn’t been stocked. Food on site was just okay, not bad, but definitely not memorable or at the level you would expect from a destination resort. Dinner felt rushed. We were in and out in about 30 minutes, which made the evening feel anticlimactic given there is not much else to do on property at night. Breakfast was decent but overpriced. The spa was a mixed bag. The massage itself was excellent, but everything around it felt disjointed. The “bathhouse” is not a traditional spa setup. It is more of a large, somewhat stale feeling room with a sauna, steam room, and a very hot pool, not a jacuzzi. Seating options were limited, with some areas requiring you to lie on concrete slabs. The floor was constantly wet and slippery, with no visible staff managing or cleaning it, which felt like a safety issue. The locker room experience was similarly inconsistent. Finding a locker with a robe, sandals, and towel took multiple tries. Several amenities were also out of service during our visit, including one shower, the steam room, and the entire outdoor area, which was disappointing. Overall, it just did not feel like the level of polish or attention to detail you would expect at over $1,000 per night. If this were priced in the $500 to $600 range, the experience might feel more reasonable, but at its current price point, it is hard to justify. There is potential here, but it needs significantly better execution to match the brand and cost.

The food and service here is incredible. This is a great place for business meetings but also an equally, if not better, place for vacation or romantic weekend getaway. Wow. Totally speechless.

My husband and I had a one night reservation in November for $1,300 a night. We were very excited to get out of the city and to experience Inness for the first time. We had a wonderful experience at Wildflower Farms before but we wanted to give Inness a try. When my husband hurt his back so badly that he could not stand or sit without my help, I emailed them asking if we could move our reservation back / have a room credit. Kayla responded and said no we cannot accommodate you. My husband followed up hoping to get a better response and she didn't even bother to reply. I looked at the website and they had many rooms at different prices available for that night so it wasn't even close to sold out. At this price point I didn't expect them to ignore their guests. We were very disappointed. As an additional note, when you make the reservation they force you to download and app that has no value added. Also, before my husbands injury, I received a welcome email from Inness. When I respond to the email to tell them we are bringing a dog, the email bounced back. Small details which when compounded become very annoying. Having to search for a way to reach the hotel when they clearly want to avoid having to speak with you. So I found the email of the hotel and told them we are brining a dog. Kayla responded saying "Ahead of your arrival, you'll have the opportunity to pre-register and add the $100 dog fee to your reservation." When I really just wanted to have it taken care of. We were hoping to find another hotel we love upstate but now we will stick to Wildflower Farms.

It was okay. Absolutely not worth the price they charge. The management especially needs an incredible amount of work. Restaurant/food was very underwhelming. Rooms are picture perfect. Spa & gym was amazing and was the best part of my stay, but spa fills up very quickly so reserve in advance. Staff were kind, but again the hospitality we received was subpar and very “casual”. Some of them were very clearly undertrained, nor fit for hospitality. Just some of the many issues: - Fire starter kits were missing upon arrival. Staff saw this and went “Oh they’re not here.” Instead of immediately replacing it they just left and we had to call the front desk to ask for more. - Lack of information on many aspects. We constantly had to ask questions about how spa/restaurant credits work and what it applies to, honor bar at the farmhouse (was not informed of this at all via website, check-in nor arrival. We only realized on our second day.) - 2 separate unknown charges to our card that did not match our spending. We assumed it was a hold of some sort but again we were not informed of such charges beforehand. When we asked they had no answer for us other than “we don’t see any charges on our end.” I followed up the day after and was told to reach out to our credit card. - The curtains are… interesting. You hook a long metal stick across and above the door like a rope stanchion. This metal rod would get stuck behind the door and would block us from entry. With a hard and difficult push it would open, but the rod would also swing back and nearly hit us in the face. - Shower has no door, although the bathroom has one. Water gets on the floor. Shower hooks are inside the shower, so anything on it would get wet. Structurally doesn’t make sense to me. - Water pressure is weak and the water smells like sulfur. It would help to include an excerpt on your website about using well water as a disclaimer. (I only found out by reading other visitors reviews.) One of the days they had water issues of some sort and the tap/shower barely worked. - All 10 of the website menu dropdown tabs like food, spa, membership— all lead to the same booking site on mobile version. Web version works fine.

Hip yet approachable vibe, wonderful attentive staff and the homemade pasta dish I had was excellent. The Parker Posey cocktail is great too.
