HI Sacramento Hostel

Gorgeous building, friendly staff. A great central, affordable place to stay in Sacramento!

I feel safe there. It's haunted. But in a good way. I do limpias to take care of the ghosts! There are a Concierge and a Communal Kitchen there. UPDATES: Locks have been updated to key cards for all guests. Lots of stairs here! I go slow and take my time. Best deal for a bed if you don’t mind a bunk bed down room situation. Close to many buses. NO elevators; this is an old historic mansion.

Great stay here, the house is beautiful and very well maintained. The staff members are friendly and helpful. Cleanliness is optimal. Central location. I just suggest to add some features to improve privacy and make it worth the price.

One of those hostels that I am very disappointed that I didn't get to experience more of. I came around 8pm on a Sunday when I had a 6am flight the next day. I tucked in as quickly as I could because I had to get up at 330am. Would have loved to have cooked in that kitchen, hung out in the common area, and maybe met some people. Not sure how or when I'll be back in Sacto, but if I am, this place is on the top of my list.

Visited the hostel for 2 nights while traveling to Los Angeles via Amtrak. It is within walking distance to the train station. Since it's downtown you are near restaurants, a Target, a museum, coffee shops and mass transit. The hostel is a restored Victorian mansion that sits in a corner in the middle of the city. The rooms have high ceilings and are wide open. There is a shared kitchen, large dining area and two seating areas. The employees were friendly and responsive. I reserved a space in an all female 10 bed room with a shared hall bathroom. The room was very large with lockers for storing valuables. The bathroom was down the hall, across the hall, and down the hall again. A little further than I wanted but clean, spacious, well lit, and well stocked with bath gel, mats and towels. I had the entire room to myself the first night but had 2 roommates in the second night. My only issue with the beds is the lack of privacy. Maybe a curtain or retractable shade on the bunk beds to allow privacy while guests sleep, but since I only paid $42 per night I can't complain.

Truly, all I needed was a short rest during my trip across the country. I booked a mere hour before my arrival and was greeted by Shayla, who took my information and gave me a rundown of the space and its rules. Shayla’s service throughout my stay was exceptional. The few things I did need during my stay were taken care with professionalism and polite demeanor. The building the hostel utilizes is a beautiful, historic building with lovely woodwork, unique art, and an ample cooking area. The HI is very accessible from the Amtrak station, located just 4 blocks away. As a traveler, I never felt like I had to question my safety. Had Sacramento been more of a destination rather than a stepping stone in my itinerary, I would be elated to spend multiple days here.

Stayed in room 23 with a friend while in town for a conference downtown. Lovely not-too-haunted gold rush theme and beautiful craftsmanship of the building itself. Staff was kind, clear, and politely helpful. Amenities were clean and the guests all respected the guidelines and rules. I highly recommend staying here if you would also like to follow the rules while enjoying the not-too-haunted vibes and proximity to Convention Center etc.
