Sydney (Darlinghurst and Surry Hills — the heart of the Mardi Gras scene) is Australia's gay capital. Melbourne (Prahran, Collingwood), Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth all have established gay scenes. The Gold Coast and Byron Bay have summer beach scenes.
Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras (late February to early March) is one of the world's largest Pride events. Melbourne Midsumma Festival runs January to February. Brisbane Pride is in September.
