Patong

Patong Beach is Phuket’s most crowded shoreline, a long curve of sand backed by Thawewong (Beach) Road that draws tourists year‑round. The beach feels like a permanent market: rows of sunbeds, jet‑ski operators hawking rides, and street food stalls spilling over onto the sand. December through March is the peak; the water is calm, the crowds are thick, and the noise never really dies down. It’s listed as gay‑friendly, but it isn’t a gay beach. Most visitors who are looking for that scene end up at Paradise Complex, a handful of bars and clubs tucked a few minutes inland off Rat‑U‑Thit 200 Pi Road. The complex is a self‑contained strip where the music stays loud until the early hours. If you’re there between May and October, keep an eye on the red flags that appear along the shoreline. The monsoon brings stronger currents, and rip currents are a genuine hazard on this part of the coast.
