Jardin Vauban

Jardin Vauban is Lille's long-standing outdoor gay cruising ground, a leafy 19th-century park on the western edge of Vieux-Lille near the Citadelle and the Esplanade. Activity is an after-dark affair, concentrated in the warmer months around the park's paths and grotto once the gates area quietens, roughly from late evening. It is a discreet, long-tolerated spot rather than an official venue: police occasionally patrol after residents' complaints, so keep things low-key and lawful, respect anyone who is not interested, and be aware of your surroundings at night. France decriminalised homosexuality in 1791 and public same-sex affection is unremarkable in Lille, but public sexual activity remains against the law — discretion is essential.
