La Cage

La Cage is a gay-owned bar and meeting point in the middle of Kassel, on the short Die Freiheit street near the town hall. It's the kind of neighbourhood queer bar that a smaller city does well: unpretentious, sociable, and geared toward conversation and regulars rather than a big dance floor. Over the years it has also lent its name to occasional "La Cage XL" party nights held at larger venues in town. Opening hours run Tuesday through Saturday from the early evening until around 1am, with the bar closed on Sundays and Mondays. Everyone is welcome, and it turns up consistently across Kassel's gay listings (TravelGay, inqueery, the CSD Kassel scene guide) as one of the city's dependable LGBTQ+ addresses.
