הוסטל רטרו (Retro Hostel)

Amazing service, especially since there is a possibility to check in late. There is an excellent sauna on site, of course for a fee for those staying less than three days.

If you are a person without "petrentii" and want to sleep very well in Cluj at a great price then choose this Hostel. For me it was very good, I would have taken the mattress home so well I slept on it. The kitchen helped me a lot, it is sufficiently equipped, especially for breakfast which I had quickly and quietly. There is a coffee machine at the reception and it can be used at any time. If I have work in Cluj again I will come back here with pleasure.

Pros: • The location is really great – everything is within easy walking distance, and the public transport is also excellent. • The owner and (presumably) his wife are very nice and helpful. • They even gave me a small biscuit as a welcome – a really nice gesture. Cons: • The beds are very worn and made of metal, which squeaks loudly with every movement. • The bathroom was unfortunately quite dirty and moldy. • The common room was not very lively during my stay, but that's not the hostel's fault, of course. • It was extremely hot in the room, and the heating unfortunately couldn't be regulated. • The value for money here is unfortunately not right – €25 per night is way too much. About €15 would be appropriate.

Hostel with a personality. They have a sauna and cellar where you can hang out if you want. They provide great informaation about Romania and the county.

A very decent hostel. The location is close to many amenities. The only downside is the bar(s) across the street. It's very difficult to sleep when your room faces the street. Bring earplugs!

Clean, and everything is fine!

I absolutely do not recommend it, especially for women unaccompanied by a man or during the Untold festival. The staff shows a lack of moral values, involvement and misogyny. I witnessed a violent incident, right in front of the location, during the day, a driver got out of his car in a rage (I later found out that he was the owner of the Ruma location, near the Hostel) and hit a pedestrian, slapped him and shouted at us, especially since the street in front of the place is strictly pedestrian. The staff (a bald and thin gentleman) came out and did not intervene at all, I was accompanied only by a girl. I asked him to at least call the police or let us enter the location so that we could be safe, and he laughed and said that the driver might be having a bad day and was standing in the entrance. Later, the gentleman from the Hostel seemed bothered when I called the police, for him it was more important to laugh. Avoid this accommodation, especially since the aggressive driver is the owner of the Ruma restaurant, located 2 minutes away from the Hostel, where he also parked, after the incident. Shame on the rest of the people in Cluj, but the hostel staff is ruining the image of this city.

The owner or part of the staff has nothing to do with humanity (a bald man). A man jumped into a fight with a young man standing in front of the hostel, and he nonchalantly came out and looked at it smiling, saying that maybe the man had a bad day and that there was nothing he could do, although he clearly saw that it was physical aggression. When I told him to call the police or intervene because he was a man, and we were only 2 girls and we are not from Cluj, he smiled and said that there was nothing he could do and that he would not have done anything, even though he was there. When he heard about the police, he asked in fear if we had filmed something. If you want to feel safe and have a staff that has a little humanity, I do not recommend this location at all, especially for women unaccompanied by a man and especially during the Untold period.
