hab queer bern (formerly the Homosexuelle Arbeitsgruppen Bern, HAB) is the capital region's local LGBTIQ association, founded in 1972 and one of the oldest queer organisations in the country. With several hundred members it offers peer counselling, advocacy and a full calendar of community activities — men's talk groups, queer seniors' meet-ups, film evenings, drag nights and regular Stammtisch gatherings. Its community home is Villa Bernau on Seftigenstrasse in Wabern, just south of the city, and many of Bern's recurring queer events run under its banner or at its partner venues. It is the best starting point for travellers who want to plug into local queer life beyond the bars and saunas.
