על המקום הזה Merchant City — רובע הלהט"ב של גלזגו

The Merchant City is Glasgow's central gay neighbourhood — a six-block district bounded by Wilson Street, Virginia Street, Ingram Street and Candleriggs. Since the mid-1990s it has been the densest queer commercial concentration in Scotland and the natural pedestrian anchor for Glasgow Pride. The neighbourhood's queer character emerged around 1991-1995 with the successive openings of Delmonicas, the Polo Lounge, and Katie's Bar (Scotland's longest-running dedicated lesbian bar). Through the 2000s the strip added the Waterloo Bar, Bennets, and roughly a dozen queer-friendly cafés and restaurants; by 2015 the neighbourhood was formally recognised by Glasgow City Council as an LGBT+ commercial district with permanent rainbow crossings at Wilson Street / Virginia Street. The Merchant City's specific character reflects Glasgow. The district's architecture is a preserved 18th-century warehouse quarter — the Merchant City name refers to the tobacco and cotton merchants whose warehouses filled the area from roughly 1750 to 1900. The queer commercial layer has been added to the preserved historic architecture rather than replacing it, giving the neighbourhood a specifically Scottish working-class-and-commercial identity that's distinct from the tourist-heavy queer neighbourhoods of London or Manchester. Free, open 24/7 as public streets. Buchanan Street or St Enoch subway are both five minutes' walk. On any Glasgow queer heritage day this is the natural anchor — combine with a walk south to the Clyde waterfront or east to Glasgow Cross for a full-day heritage circuit.

Extremely rude guy behind the bar! Clearly was not happy to be there or see anyone else there for that matter! The bar was pretty dead and I can understand why. Not a nice encounter at all

Popped in on a Sunday night and it did not disappoint. Heard the music from outside and was a great atmosphere and vibe and lots of singing from Robert and May Miller. May is such a character. Great night out!
